Scope and Contents
The Audiovisual Recordings series includes published and unpublished recordings featuring Samuels as a performer, composer, arranger, and director, including commercial releases, promotional recordings, working and reference copies of studio recordings, and live performances. Many items are undated.

Conditions Governing Access
Collection is open for research by appointment. Advance notice is required for access because materials are stored offsite. Audiovisual recordings have not been transferred. Patrons may view an item’s original container and/or carrier, but the recordings themselves are not available for playback due to preservation concerns. Patrons may request access to viewing/listening copies via onsite appointment, however recordings on obsolete formats may not be available. Contact Archives staff for further information.

Arrangement
Arranged into four subseries, all arranged chronologically. (1) Commercial recordings, which contains copies of albums released by Samuels and his ensembles, as well as albums featuring Samuels as guest artist or collaborator; (2) Sound recordings, which comprises recordings primarily on reel-to-reel audio tape as well as audio cassette; (3) Recordings on videocassette, which contains recordings on VHS; (4) Recordings on optical media, which includes recordings on CD, DVD, and MiniDisc.
