Arrangement

This collection is organized into five series: Concerts and Recitals, Clinics, Commencement Ceremonies and Concerts, Entering Student Convocation, and Jazz in the Classroom.

Series 1: Concerts and Recitals (1973-1994)

This series consists of student, faculty, and visiting artist concerts and recitals. The majority of these concerts took place in the Berklee Performance Center.

Series 2: Clinics (1973-1991)

This series contains clinics led by visiting artists such as Pat Metheny, John Abercrombie, and Nile Rodgers.

Series 3: Commencement Ceremonies and Concerts (1969-1994)

This series contains audio recordings of commencement ceremonies and concerts. Highlights include baccalaureate ceremonies and concerts from 1969-1984, the only recordings of these events in the Berklee Archives.

Series 4: Entering Student Convocation (1987-1993)

This series contains audio recordings of entering student convocations and concerts.

Series 5: Jazz in the Classroom

Jazz in the Classroom recordings featured student composers and performers and demonstrated jazz writing and performance techniques. Students of note on these recordings include, among others, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Gary Burton, and Alan Broadbent.

Custodial History

The exact provenance of the recordings in this collection is unknown, but they are believed to have been generated by Berklee College of Music’s Concert Operations department, known colloquially as the Concert Office, and possibly previously referred to as the BPC (Berklee Performance Center) office. The current Concert Operations department manages Berklee's performance venues and facilitates the production of all student, faculty, visiting artist, and professional performances in the following five campus venues: Lawrence and Alma Berk Hall, Oliver Colvin Hall, David Friend Hall, The Red Room @ Café 939, and the Berklee Performance Center.
