Scope and Contents

This collection includes parts and scores for the three overtures commissioned for and performed at the Berklee 60th Anniversary Concert on January 28, 2006: “1945-1965” arranged by Rob Mounsey (1975); “1965-1985” arranged by Victor Vanacore (1974); and “1985-2005” arranged by Philippe Saisse (1978). Each overture presents an arrangement of popular music selections from a twenty-year era. All scores and several parts have annotations. This collection contains three unique versions of Saisse’s “1985-2005” overture.

Historical Note

“Three Score: The Berklee 60th Anniversary Concert” was held at the Wang Theatre in Boston on January 28, 2006. The concert celebrated the first sixty years of Berklee’s history and fundraised for the newly instituted Presidential Scholarship Program at Berklee, which awarded full-tuition and housing scholarships to outstanding students with demonstrated financial need—the first scholarship of its kind for a music college.

The 60th Anniversary Concert was produced by twelve-time Grammy Award winner Phil Ramone in partnership with the College’s concert production staff, led by Rob Rose, Assistant Vice President for Special Programs. The performance opened with three overtures commissioned particularly for this event, arranged and conducted by Berklee alumni for a sixty-piece orchestra and a chorus of voices comprising Berklee faculty members and students. The first overture, “1945-1965,” was arranged by Rob Mounsey (1975); “1965-1985” was arranged by Victor Vanacore (1974); and “1985-2005” was arranged by Philippe Saisse (1978). Each overture presented musical summaries of the eras they represented.

Custodial History

This collection was discovered in the office of Larry Monroe, Vice President for Academic Affairs/Berklee Valencia, following his retirement in 2012 and stored in the office of Jason Camelio in International Programs (later Global Initiatives) until its transfer to the Archives in 2021.

Acquisition History

The collection was transferred to the Archives by Jason Camelio, Assistant Vice President of Global Initiatives, in 2021.

Processing Information

Materials arrived in no discernible order. Processing staff removed spiral bindings, rehoused material according to size, and intellectually arranged the inventory to group by title and reflect the order in which the compositions were performed.
